Entanglement

Entanglement was created in response to Amanda’s move to New Hampshire during the Covid-19 pandemic. Feelings of isolation and the strong desire to be part of a community, inspired the artist to create abstracted habitat vessels. The sculptures are reminiscent of wasp nests, clumps of seaweed, milkweed pods, and hollows in trees. The perfect little home. They remind us of how we are all intertwined and in community with each other, and also with the environment.

The biomorphic sculptures in this series are made from chicken wire, post-consumer plastic grocery bags, ceramic, and gold leaf. The plastic grocery bags add an organic texture to the sculptures while also preventing more plastic from going to the landfill. Ceramic stoneware is one of the oldest art mediums in existence, clay directly from the earth. Early human civilizations used ceramic vessels to preserve food, and thus contributed to the advancement of culture and society. The use of gold leaf makes the vessels precious and revered, a material that has been used throughout art history to designate holiness and elite status. The feminine yonic motif is consistent throughout the work as it spans multiple mediums. This symbol represents the divine feminine, mother earth, and seeds, the origins of life.

An exhibition of our connections with the natural world and each other: Entanglement.
